To my classmates. Check out this article. I know most of us were new to tumblr, but this article taught me alot about it and what is to come possible.

“Last fall, Tumblr took in an additional $85 million in funding and the site has hired around 90 people in the last year (up from fewer than 20 in 2011). To accommodate the more than 16 billion monthly page views—most visitors are between 18 and 35, a slight majority of them women—the site has had to increase its server capacity, its support staff, and its office size.

This kind of growth is being keenly watched by New York’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has sunk millions into turning his city into a haven for tech. In part on the strength of Tumblr and other homegrown hits, like FourSquare and Seamless, the New York tech scene is in boom times. Facebook opened an office in the city, and even some West Coast companies, including interactive video site Qwiki, are moving East, looking to be close to advertisers or just to have more fun. The New York companies, says Rachel Sterne, the City of New York’s chief digital officer, tend to be more about content, where Silicon Valley companies are more about technology.”

Who knew it was this big of a thing. I had no idea, tumblr was used so widespread.

This conference is a huge deal to people. Tickets to this event in June sold out in two hours.

Many people believe the new iPhone will be out at this conference. They said not to ge your hopes up. This conference has been the release for many new features such as the iPhone 3G and other software.

“Some early pundits agree that given Apple’s announcements over the past 24 hours, we’re unlikely to see a new iPhone in June.”

It seems software will be the highlight for this years conference once again. It is funny to see how people think their lives are destroyed because the new iPhone is not coming out in June like first planned. Now they expect to see a release in the fall. I think this conference would be interesting but to me what is the big deal. You can read everything you need to right on the computer or television screen.

It started at a very young age, and is not noticed until somewhat older. Just looking at commercials for kids that one might see watching a kids tv network or Saturday morning cartoons. It is crazy the amount of differences used to appeal just to the difference of gender. Colors, the background voice, overall product, music, and so much more. Take a look and see at what a young age it all starts.

I thought this news video showed some great information and insight into gender differences within advertisement commercials. I know for instance the newest Dr. Peper 10 commercial was a huge debate earlier in the week for one of my classroom settings. While my professor said, “HE” thought it was hilarious one of the better commercials out right now, he asked the class and one of the girls in the class said it was absolutely stupid and offensive. That is how it all started and it continued to be an ongoing debate throughout the class. This is just one of many commercials that shows the expectations a man or a woman should do, be, and live. Advertising commercials area huge influence.

This is so true! Advertising, especially through commercials show distinguishing differences between males and females. Gender and sex play a huge role throughout daily experiences. This is no different towards advertising, television, commercials, etc…. Certain jokes, looks, meanings, etc contribute differently to men and women. Men and women evaluate and look at things differently no matter what one may say.

This video was a great example! Thanks Michael. I really like using examples to follow along with the text.

THIS IS CRAZY!

I do think this will change the way we communicate with one another. Just like you stated above people cannot even drive without texting or what not. The amount of change texting, email, smart phones, overall technology advancement has shortened the amount people communicate face to face. We have cut down on interpersonal communication. This will aslo affect our “Smartness” level. haha

Look at what Google alone has done to “us”, teenagers, and other individuals. That is the number one source for many to type in whatever information or question one may have. Google Glasses what is next? This will deeply affect many different elements such as education, comprehension levels, literacy levels, increase in vehicle collisions, more technology advancements, and so much more.

This was a great insight to information shared in Chapter 19. It is true. Comedy changes through people’s personal life experiences. The 9/11 event affected many individuals which changed their view to comedy.

Using SNL was a great example. Just like stated above George was always portrayed by Will. It was a skit very well known and laughed at by many. After the even the storyline and character did seem to change. There are many examples I am sure. As today people try to be more open toward gender, race, ethnicity, etc.. It still happens. To what some may find comedic or funny some may not.

9/11 was a great example for this discussion THANKS!

Want to be able to use Spotify to listen to the music you want while blogging on tumblr for class?

Now you can!

Announced Wednesday, “the Spotify Play Button is a widget that will let Web users listen to songs, play lists or entire albums without having to leave the page they’re viewing.”

The article made sure to announce that this opportunity will be free, legal, and amazing to listen to music!

“While the tool can be used across all types of blogs and sites, Tumblr announced that it has partnered with Spotify, incorporating the tool directly into its blogging platform.”

I figured this would be a great article to let my fellow classmates see and read about themselves. We as well as other fellow tumblr users can use this feature on here as well as other blog sites!

Music is a thing liked by most. This is a smart move for spotify. This will gain in their populatirty and so much more!

The microsoft has agreed to add some channels for the Xbox live gold members. Those include major league baseball, HBO, and Comcast. This reaches out to many of it’s customers while improving as it ages.

“The expansion of Xbox video content could help keep the device relevant as it ages — it’s now about halfway through what’s estimated to be a 10-year lifecycle.”

These features will be “life changing” to users such as my boyfriend. I cannot get over the amount of features one game console can offer to its users. They come up with the smartest features to target a huge chunk of their audience, keep buyers buying, and much more.

This is a great statistic to have in the books! Users are continuing to agree well with this product. Microsoft has and will continue this strong suit for the console in upkeep, new features, and more to come. I will be excited to see what is next for Xbox.

I agree with documentaries. I grew up watching them whether it be on MTV, TLC, etc… There are many types of documentaries these days. The increased amount seems unreal. The documentaries and reality TV have a way with viewers I guess. I feel like if viewers can find a way to relate at all, they will latch on and the next thing you know you are in the 5th season or more.

Whether people can completely rely on documentaries is a valid point. At this point in these days, I ask myself quite often what can you rely or trust anymore? It is a valid point I think. There is not much that has not been revised, switched, or edited.

Once again thanks for your post and I agree with pretty much all of your points!

By now I’m sure everyone has heard about the article that was printed in the Chicago tribune last week. It said that a shocking number of companies, particularly in the public sector, are asking job applicants for the PASSWORDS to their social media sites.

On their blog, Facebook condemned this practice and called it ‘alarming’. I think most people would agree. I would never give a potential employer the password to my account. I wouldn’t even give them the link to my profile. I say things on facebook and twitter that I don’t really mean. I say stupid things on there regularly to try to make my friends laugh. Who would submit to giving an employer their password anyway? If I wanted the job bad enough, I would simply delete the account and tell them I didn’t have one.

Furthermore, if I was a manager or a human resources employee (I guess this is who would look at your account…) I would never log onto someone’s facebook and read their messages.

This article took me by absolute shock. I should have known it was coming. The fact that employers want their employees facebook passwords is ridiculous. What is a password going to show that a normal preview will not show. That is the first point. The second problem is people wanting to be up in everyone’s business. The amount of freedom taken away from individuals just because their employers think they need everything is just crazy. Like Dr. Dyer discussed in my Writing for Public Relations class, there are many other ways to go about this or other ways of getting information about your employers to where you do not need their password. That is just taking way to far. It is absolutely crazy!!! That is what having privacy protection on all our social media, accounts on in Internet etc… are all about. Now with sharing this could cause many scandals, scams, and many other issues to happen. Why risk these silly things over a facebook password?

New iPad hits stores at 8 a.m. Friday

Hopefully this is the last story, but I doubt it will be for the new release. The iPad is supposed to be released on Friday!

“The new iPad will initially be sold in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.”

We will be able to find it at Wal-Mart, Target, Sams, Radio Shack, and Best Buy! So maybe stay away from those stores on Friday.

It will be released to other locations and countries on March 23rd.

The story states its first come first serve. I am sure things will get crazy for this new piece of technology. I just do not know if people are willing to pay for it, when they can get the older one cheaper?

We will see!

Mode of address. I like this concept, for some reason it’s kind of funny to me. The way the book describes it as how a text addresses us, like a family. I got this image in my head of my radio yelling at me like my mom would. Upon further thought, I realized how many radio and television ads treat the viewer or listener like they’re part of the ad’s family.

This is great! Way to use personal experience to relate to new material. I also like the photo to relate as well. I like this overall relationship you have phone. It makes great sense. television ads/ radio ads are everywhere all the time.

Modes of address are everyone all the time as well. this relates perfectly and your description was great.

More competition for the IPhone they say. I currently have an Android, and have nothing but problems. I am interested in reading more about this phone and its new features. It is crazy how many of the new technologies articles start off by comparing or competing against the IPhone.

People that have Androids what/how do you feel about them?
